It's interesting to see the All-Stars evenly split on this stock, yet it has one-star status. At any rate, I believe AMD was unfairly sold off on the last earnings report and that the downside is somewhat limited from here. Margins fell some as the company had to rejigger manufacturing to meet high demand for Turion notebook chips, but that's out of the way now and, after a 50% drop in the stock price since February, this looks like a good time to jump in.

Wishful thinking? AMD is a solid company, but Intel is enormous and causing some serious damage to AMD at the moment in terms of compressed margins and increased costs. I would wait to pick this up even if that meant potentially missing some of the gains.

Yes, wishful thinking. AMD is floundering at the moment. They continue to fall behind Intel technologically, and that is fatal. There is some belief that their new release (in May??) will bring them up to par with CoreDuo. However, Intel shortly afterward will be releasing their latest (July, I think) and will leap-frog AMD again.

AMD is hurting, and deservedly so. They are failing to execute their own roadmap, and are failing to meet expectations. I wouldn't touch this stock until they demonstrate those days are gone. Like you said, even if it means missing some gains. But, honestly, I'd definitely put a stop loss on this puppy if I did buy in, because AMD has shown that they can fall flat on their face in a heart-beat, and the stock gets punished shortly afterwards.
