I use AMD in all my computers and it excells far above Intel. I own the stock and I did not sell it last year at $40. I am prepared to hold it to go up over $40 this year or early next year.

Take note. This is how a fool loses money. He gets emotionally attached to his stock and then decides to never sell it, regardless of how piss poor it is doing. Next time do yourself a favor and set a stop loss for 10% less then what you paid for it, so you don't feel the super pain of losing your ass(losing your ass is equal to or greater then losing 50% of your money on a stock).

I think AMD is a good stock, but not a 40 dollar stock. I think at these levels it is relatively cheap, and presents a good value to buy. After all, AMD owns ATI graphics, which it acquired earlier this year, and could be a potential earnings machine with Vista.

Just be careful about how you play a stock, otherwise you will be praying, like this homer, for a recovery back to the price you paid for it. Unfortunately, it will be awhile before this guy will recover any of his losses.

$40 by next year seems as likely as "AMD computers excelling far above intel" right now.

Let's just take a moment and reflect on the company that is loosing money here. $40 for AMD? It's like saying that a Hyundai is far superior car than a BMW. Let's get real people.

I think your strategy is not a good one. Yes I liked the AMD chips over the last couple years, but my grandparents liked their model T ford also. Today I prefer my Camry. respectfully you must re-analyze your portfolio constantly. Not sell constantly but put something in place to lock in profits. I was once a similiar investor to you -- watched too many 2 dollar stocks go to 40 and then back to 2.
As far as AMD this is the only stock that I disagree with the all stars. It is in for at least a 20% haircut --
Then if and only if their new tech offerings do what they advertise will I get in. Remember that AMD is the
sentimental favorite to beat Intel but it is the underdog for a lot of reasons. Because of this I am Short and will stay short till we hit 10!
good luck
Brian

I would have sold AMD around 35. Like others have said, do not fall in love with a company so much that you would never sell a stock. Imagine how many more shares you could own now if you had sold and bought back at 15.

Well, I don't see AMD at $12 yet - it is currently $14 .

And while some here want to criticize the original poster, some trade stocks almost daily and others buy into a company and hold for long periods of time. These are both different approaches to the market. Neither is better than the other.

Now AMD's future seems uncertain at best, but they do have the tools to excel. ATI cost them a lot, but in the long term ATI could be very beneficial to their bottom line – especially, if AMD can incorporate ATI graphics into their mobile processors. Think of the advantage that might offer them in the laptop and handhelds market.

Sure AMD is the “David” here but, while they may not be able to fully compete with Intel, at least at the moment, they do have the possibility to bring products to the market that Intel does not even offer.

I figure their stock price is so cheap at the moment that I have little to lose by investing in them. Having said that, I should state that I am a small investor. Big investors certainly have to consider their risk more than I do.

Ouch. That was pretty harsh, coming from someone with nearly the same score as the author...

According to my research, AMD is going to get crushed during the next couple of years because Intel's processors are simply better. MUCH better. I have used AMD's processors for about 4 years, but now, I wouldn't touch an X2 over an INTC dual core. We won't see just how much better INTC's procs are (and I could be wrong - Barcelona could blow everyone away) until Barcelona is released, but if I had to bet on one or the other, I would be shorting AMD and buying INTC. However, I am confident that, if given enough time, AMD will make a comeback, as it has done in the past, through superior innovations - But that time could be far, far in the future.
