BAC will under-perform because it is evil. I detest this company of chiselers, grifters, pickpockets and con men. You should too. They are the closest thing to legal organized crime that exists in our land. Big tobacco and coal mining companies shine in comparison to BAC. Get out now while you still have a soul.

This post must come with some personal experience behind it. I totally agree. Way back in the day when BAC tried to do things the right way (relatively speaking), they made money. To bad they cannot get the right people on the bus.

Hugh McColl's Nations Bank was a very sucessful and well-run bank headquartered in Charlotte, South Carolina. Upon taking over Bank of America they abandoned their Nations Bank name and took on the Bank of America name. Being very successful and managing to withstand the economic downturn, they were "approached" to take on (aka rescue) Countrywide and Merrill Lynch which have been the primary sources of their current difficulties. Bank of America didn't make the original quesionalble mortgages, but their efforts to salvage as much money out of the failing ones as they can results in whizzed off homeowners who don't want to let go of the homes they can no longer afford.

And they have incorporated the culture of John Thain and Merrill Lynch, to boot .. The arrangement was made by the Bush Administration thru Paulson forcing the takeover of a Bankrupt Merrill on Ken Lewis.. That is where the EVIL originated... I have recently terminated all dealings with them.. because of a proven act of dishonesty regarding a large order for VIPSX which they refused to execute on my self directed account .. Be aware , Merrill is a bunch of lying bastards saved by the Bush people with the same set of ethics ...

You do not have a grasp of the facts Pete. Countrywide was not forced upon BofA by anyone, that was completely voluntary on their part.

Why the day after I thumb down BAC, Buffet had to step in and stop the natural course of things? I love Buffet but he's totally ruining my CAPS score! Darnit! Now I have to wait five years for BAC to get back below S&P performance so I can end my pick. Grrrrr.

Red thumb with the most bullish pitch imaginable. I'm confused. How can a company of chiselers, grifters, pickpockets and con men NOT thrive in today's environment?

Not only was Countrywide never forced upon them, the idea of: "whizzed off homeowners who don't want to let go of the homes they can no longer afford" is a very one sided look at the issue. Sure there was at lot of greed by individuals that wanted more home than they could afford. But there was also a lot of greed from these big banks and mortgage institutions in that they gutted everyone for every last penny they could. This is the same greed that has BAC now charging people for debit cards. Yes, they forgot who their customers are. Only a mutual understanding that begins with less greed on all sides can bring back economic strength in this country. Since many folks have been foreclosed on, and many are now upside down in their mortgages, there is not going to be anyone left to make loans too. We lost sight of what Henry Ford did. Most remember him for his production line, but his real contribution was that he paid his workers enough that they could afford to by his product. It was a mutual understanding that Ford understood well. Similar to Clausewitz's trilogy of People-Military-Government needing each other to be successful in war, it works for business as well but the model would be Company-Employees-Customers. Banks like BAC will never understand the idea of mutual benifit actually helping their business to thrive. They are too big to care. They would blind themselves into bankruptcy, but evidently they are too big to fail as well which gives them an artificial sense of invulnerability. Eventually they will lose customers back to local banks and credit unions. Despite what anyone might think, they still need customers.
