Even though they are both in search, who says Baidu can produce the results, business models, and innovation that google has? Google is a very unique company, it is not going to be any old search engine business that matches or models what they have accomplished.

You're right, there's no doubt Google has some amazing products and services available. However, Baidu does not have to be a Google to have amazing growth. Baidu will grow and prosper in it's own right. Besides, there's more to the hear and now of Google's innovation, there's the the future, and Google, having hardly tested the rigors of time, is a big DoGG with a target on it's back.

BIDU does not have to inovate, BIDU can just copy GOOG by translating/adapting all apps to Chinese market ... This is not fair, and GOOG can decide to sue, but I imagine that they will come to some sort of partnership/agreement in the near future ...

GDP per Capita for China is a lot lower than America. China has around $5300 per capita while America has around $43000 per capita. Also I'm pretty sure internet usuage in the States is higher than in China. So even though Baidu has the same market share in a bigger country its profits are not as high as Googles because the people there have less money. None the less, with how fast China is growing I'm personally very bullish on Baidu.

I tend to agree, They can copy and they have been known for it. And b just the sheer size($5300 per capita x what 1 or 2 billion???) of population has a possibility. A russian general had said "sometimes quantity has it's own qaulity."

Thats not a totally accurate comparison. Google's market share is much greater than the United States alone. What about Europe, Asia and Australia? None of these places are using Baidu, but they sure are using Google.

I just worry about China full stop. Baidu may be fine but I don't believe regulation of corporates is strong enough. The bubble will burst, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one day... Then all shares will tumble, the good, the bad and the ugly. If Baidu really is the good it will survive and rise again. Then maybe I will go in. For now I'll watch.

both - at some point competition will get Google. Google alumni are well-funded and eager to build a better mouse trap. Finally, at some point the overall market direction(6/26/08) will destry each one
