Burger King has improved their menu immensely in the last year; sweet potato fries being a more recent addition. Their marketing department has been totally improved also. All they need is to speed up their drive thru window. I think they are going to give McDonalds a run for their money.
I went in for the first time in half a decade to do a little research after the IPO, remembering that a friend of mine, in agreement that Woppers are bad burgers, said that he enjoys BK's chicken. So I went in to get a feel for the place and try the chicken. Contrary to my buddy's opinion, after the first bite it was clear the quality was at best on par with their Woppers... McDonald's and Wendy's (especially Wendy's) are offering great real chicken breast sandwiches these days, and Burger King is giving me the ground-up bleached stuff fried in a bland and fatty batter with the cheapest possible bread and toppings. I got a salad too because apparently they don't do sweet potato fries in Canada - it had clearly been sitting pre-made in the fridge for several days.
The only hope for Burger King is YUM-like success overseas. But I have a feeling they are late for that party.
Appreciate your comments and observations, dwKapital. I'm not a big chicken eater. Actually, I heard many bad reports about McDonald's McNuggets also. The new things I like at BK are their coffee, oatmeal, $1 bacon burger, and smoothies. These are all new items in the last year or two. The pictures of their food, in our local BK, are very professionally done.
