With Kuvan in line to be reviewed soon by the FDA, and very positive phase III results, the likelihood is high that approval will be secured for this treatment for Phenylketonuria. This will give Biomarin a third highly profitable drug on the market. Due to the small target market all of Biomarin's drugs are protected from competition under the Orphan Drug Act. This effectively gives them a monopoly.

As all of these drugs must be taken for life, the revenue stream is actually very reliable. Given the predictable revenue, the prospect of a buyout by a larger biotech cannot be ruled out.

In a landscape littered with high risk situations Biomarin stands out as a biotech
with a high degree of predictability and the prospect of profits for years to come.
