Again being simple here. Cheap stock as judged by P/E, cash on hand and dividend. Just started a buyback and the insiders have started buying at higher prices than my start point ( http://canadianinsider.com/coReport/allTransactions.php?ticker=bvf ). I bought some for myself today and wil buy more if the price drops more.

I'm bullish on BVF. I got in on May 28 at $11.90. Any thoughts on why the stock didn't move upward on the May 27 announcement of the stock buyback, which is usually a positive sign?

Not too crazy about buyback "announcements". Actually stocks with buyback announcements underperform the market ( http://finance.google.com/finance?chdnp=1&chdd=1&chds=1&chdv=1&chvs=maximized&chdeh=0&chdet=1212456584193&chddm=140760&cmpto=AMEX:SPY&q=AMEX:PKW& ) . Sometimes these announcements are cover for insiders to sell shares and the actual buyback never occurs.

All this aside, in the long run a company like BVF with good fundamentals and insider buying will outperform. Unlike buybacks, insider buying is strongly related to outperforming the markets. Also, I approach pharma companies like any company with scrutiny of fundamentals and ignorance of pipelines because frankly no one knows (I am actually a physician myself who spent some years doing research before my MD but I don't even bother with the pipeline). And this approach leaves me in good company:
