Citigroup will never go bankrupt. Sure they're hurting pretty badly along with most other financial institutions as a result of having to absorb all those bad real estate debts. They are too large of an institution for the feds to allow this one to go under. Just like what happened with Bears and Stearns, the feds will be there to bail them out. This stock is trading at almost its current bottom; too attractive a deal to not pick up.

Bear Sterns would never go bankrupt either.... ooops, they averted it by Chase buying it cheap. Even if Fed bails out Citi if it gets worse, the prices won't be at this level! In fact, if Fed has to bail out Citi, the whole market will be shot as no one would have faith in financial institutions or the Fed anymore. Let's hope they don't need to be bailed out....

But with the uncertainty in the market about what Banks are hiding in their closets, we can't really say if any bank will come unscathed.
