Inflation is the long term problem to be dealt with. The Fed has stated many times it will combat deflation by any means necessary (printing money). The QE shock earlier this year was only the opening salvo. Gold / Silver are the best monetary inflation hedges. CEF is 50% Gold / 50% Silver, rigorous auditing, smart managment (well timed bullion purchases relative to NAV, non-dilutive offerings), and in Canada! See TMFSinchiruna's blogs and articles for the best writing on this fund.
To those who are bent on blaming China and everyone else, this comment is not for you. For those who can see the truth behind the lies from FED, this is as close as it gets. US is like a chain-smoker or worse drug-addict, and the drug is credit. Over the years, the addiction has gotten real bad and US is smoking through hundreds of sticks every day. And now China and other countries are faced with a dilemma, give in to US addiction and they will sink the US deeper into addiction maybe a drug-overdose and she will keel over (along with all the world's economy). If they don't give in, the addict will go berserk and everyone knows an addict with serious weapons is not a trivial problem. So which will it be, you know the cure. COLD TURKEY. For the addict's own good, everyone should stop feeding US credit addiction.
If anybody is interested, I put together two large blog posts recently that talk about gold, inflation, the US Dollar, etc. that act as further justification and clarification for the original pitch above for CEF.
