I don't really have any energy play goin' down here on my CAPS scorecard, so I'm going to select this independent producer of oil and natural gas, with its $12 billion market cap, for two reasons: (1) oil has just hit another new high with BP shutting down some production in Alaska, and (2) this stock is 5-star-rated in CAPS, and CAPS ratings have been doing me right. My overall strategy with flyers like this one is to maintain the pick as long as it stays rated 5 stars....

I'm opting out. Oil peaked right about the time I selected this. And I don't really have a feel for, or follow, oil. Turns out I should have red-thumbed it, as I've lost 21 Score. No sense for whether this is the right move or not -- mainly just trimming my scorecard.

Ah, and yet I forgot to, and now the Score is back to -11, and this stock won our Stock Madness contest. I'll continue to hang out, especially after having heard more from Philip Durrell on this company from our Motley Fool Advisor Roundtable.

And now the stock is up fairly nicely, still rated 5 stars, and showing about a +7 overall Score on my scorecard. I recently re-upped it for another year.

Now a +13 -- still five-star-rated. I'm looking to up my Accuracy, but won't harvest this pick as it seems like oil is only going higher....!

I will re-up this pick for yet another year, just looking a year ahead. The possibly increasing relevance of natural gas, in face of things like the Pickens Plan, and McClendon's reputed genius, convince me to remain. At +27 now. --DG
