From what I hear, the younger generation considers radio "obsolete." Obviously, the radio helped create this attitude by refusing to increase the size of their playlists. Digital won't increase radio listening at all unless they address this fundamental problem first.
Its election time so I am going to ride the PR wave.
HD Radio is coming and promises to be the antithesis of clear channel. This will cause radio to rise at least in the short-term, with costly satellite radio falling. A one-time cost for the receiver to get HD stations beats the monthly costs of satellite and provides a competitive variety of stations.
