This company appears to be on the leading edge of LED technology. I believe the benefits of this technology are only beginning to be realized. One application that comes to mind is food production. High-intensity indoor plant lighting has always been synonymous with high-energy, high-cost. I believe LED has the potential to revolutionize greenhouse growing.
Government spending to update old building lighting is just the tip of the iceberg. These guys are producing LUMENS, the energy from the sun that plants use for photosynthesis, from very small amounts of energy. Greenhouse grow lighting uses huge amounts of energy and the bulbs have a very short lifespan. High-intensity LEDs use significantly less energy, last hundreds of times longer, and can be programmed to put off different light spectrums. This technology will soon come out of the "heads" closets and into mainstream greenhouse growing.
