Covance is notorious for its cruel treatment of its laboratory animals and is the subject
of a major campaign by Peta. Unlike most industries that use animals, Covance has
been totally resistant to negotiation on this issue. I believe this is a sign of unethical
management and expect this company to do poorly.
TMF is not the proper place for your misguided political statements.
Its completely true that Covance is the subject of a PETA campaign (quick google search).Ethical stock screens sometimes work (and sometimes don't), but either way, that kind of information is completely relevant to this discussion.
Well good luck basing your investment logic on the actions of PETA which is universally accepted as one of the most whacked out organizations in the world. If someone is sick and needs medicine, I can assure you that they aren't going to worry about whether Willard was treated badly. Time to grow up.
Now do another google search on "PETA kills animals" and tell us how you feel about PETA's relevance. The statement above includes personal / emotional phrases such as:* "is notorious for". Notorious is a subjective statement. Most investors haven't ever heard of Covance, let alone could it be true that the company is widely regarded as 'notorious'. * What exactly is "a major campaign by Peta" anyway? For all their worldwide activities, the interactions they've had with Covance clearly were not 'major'.* "Unlike most industries that use animals, Covance has been totally resistant to negotiation on this issue." Who here can name pharma companies that opted to negotiate with PETA? There are national and international regulations to abide, PETA should address the authors of those laws, not companies abiding them.* I believe this is a sign of unethical management and expect this company to do poor"This most illustrates the above post as a poor political statement. Who says unethical management can't perform well? lol Ok, more seriously, look at CVD performance. What is it now, 20 consecutive quarters of rising profits?
The ethics of a company and/or its bad press is relevant if it is the poster's opinion that it makes a difference. It is up to the reader to agree or disagree.
Explaining why a company is or will make money regardless of the ethics or subjective reasons investors choose to buy in is also valid.
Telling anyone their post is inappropriate merely because we do not agree with their politics or because the practices of a company are fine by us Isn't appropriate. Neither are condescending, sarcastic insults. I'd like to read why people do not agree with the financial assessment without the snideness. If there is no discussion as to why he or she thinks the issue will not hurt profits, but posts only an insult, then the poster wasted our time.
