EMC oems their products to Dell, and will have margins squeezed with every agreement. While they've been working to diversify into software and solutions, EMC faces tough competition from major players.

I worked in the Tech hardware market for twenty years. There is no margin now and cheapest usually wins. Like Walmart, quality means very little when purchase are made.

If you look closely at their software acquisitions, I specially like VMware - the leader in virtualization. I believe VMware is almost a $800 million business for them now. And that is a high-margin (a.k.a fat) software business. EMC is a value to me at this price point.
