Several reasons. First their new CEO and President has a great track record of turning around multinationals.Second the new UAW contract removes several significant albatrosses from around Ford's neck.Third new markets getting exploited. Ford is building several new factories in China as the demand for Ford products in China is exploding. Their products are very popular there. Most experts predict rapid growth of auto demand in China and while Chinese companies will eventually mature to take it, it will take a few years. For the next five or so the demand will be met mainly by established internationals like Ford.Next Ford is quietly developing new product lines. While GM is trumpeting their timeline for developing the Volt but as of yet do not have a prototype, Ford is already testing a PHEV developed with JCI-Saft. Plug-ins that are mainly powered off of grid-derived power for a majority of commuting miles will be a major part of the future of transportation. Ford is showing that are ready to compete in that sector. And finally its just a wonderfully contrarian pick! American auto and their financial divisions are just so so so beaten down.

Look what the Japanese automakers are doing to the US automakers, wait until the Chinese start building their cars in a large volume. Its hard to find a product built in the US anymore, everything is Chinese made. Even the Japanese are worried about the coming onslaught of Chinese cars. I read an article that people in Japan get irritated when they see a Japanese driving an American car, we need that kind of attitude in the US. If Americans had a level playing field we can compete with anyone.

ameronly, I agree that we, as a country, should be upset that others choose buy overseas cars. But you can't blame them, look what domestic autos were made from the 80's to the 90's. Now most companies have the same reliability and Ford is moving up fast. Many questioned CEO Allan Mullaly, but I believe that he is doing what is needed to turn Ford around. The sale of Jag/LR and Aston Martin make me sad as an enthusiast who loves Ford, but they make me happy (bullish) as an investor.

If this company survives, and I think they will, this stock will be a multi-bagger for those who have patience.

If you want an upbeat view of Ford, read the lead article in the NY Times Business Section, Sunday, April 20. Ford's leadership seems to have gotten religion, if you believe what the reporter has written.

Ford is becoming a nice turnaround story. The CEO was on CNBC today, and an article in the business section of our newspaper covered them as well. He has decreased losses and increased earnings every quarter and Ford is on the road back to profitability, and I may be wrong but I believe they actually reported positive earnings of 5 cents recently. I am already up 40% up on this one (my best pick so far, I am about a one month old caps player), I wish I bought it in real life. I bet its still a good buy if it turns around to profitablity. I could see it at least doubling if they do become profitable.Fool on :-)
