Ford is the Chrysler of our time. For those who remember Chrysler of the late 70's/early 80's remember Ford. The "gubmint" will NOT let a domestic car company go out of business...too many related industries will be affected PLUS the unions have too strong a voice in the business. Short and mid-term Ford stinks but long term probably will rebound albeit with a smaller segment share. The next 5 years will be prime short-seller territory...

Chrysler's no longer a domestic car company, you realize that, right? Essentially it went out of business as an American-owned-and-run organization.

This isn't the late 70's/early 80's, either. Globalization has come a long way since that time. If you'd like another analogy about companies being supported by the US Gov't in the late 70's - early 80's, check out U.S. Steel. Are you bullish on their stock in 2006 too?

I hate to say it, but the economy in Michigan stinks right now, and they are turning everywhere to get out from being so dependent on the auto companies. The Unions are have cut their last leg and are now falling hard and fast. Don't think Ford is pulling out of this one. They should have made a move years ago, but with the economy the way it is in Michigan, they're sunk...especially the next 2-3years if they last that long.
