Ford is positioned for long term growth. Their design team has created an appealing line of 2013 models and the Fusion in particular is ready to take off. Add all of this to the fact that they are the only auto maker in the US to not accept bailout money and they are more attractive to many Americans.
Ford was the only US auto maker not to go bankrupt, but they received (and enthusiastically accepted) $5.9B in special government loans in 2009.
