FDX kills UPS on the most profitable segments of the courier market. They also aren't a union shop and the employees have more of a personal stake in their performance.

I work at a large lawfirm, and there is a reason we always use FedEx and never UPS. And for me personaly, UPS has let me down and/or outright screwed me a number of times. FedEx never.

FedEx is hiring pilots while other companies are releasing theirs. They also have purchased new planes which would seem to indicate that the company also believes in their own growth.
