When I bought FLI about 5 years ago (about $8 / share BEFORE a 2-for-1 stock split), I noticed that most of the analysis done lumps them into the air transportation industry, i.e., airplane passenger lines. This is mostly a misnomer. Don't believe that Jet Blue or Delta Airlines is a competitor, so don't believe fully the industry analysis you see for FLI...Actually FLI is in a very small market niche within the air transportation industry, composed primarily of flying oil rig personnel to work on their oceanic oil rig platforms. They seem to have few competitors, when looked at correctly within their small market niche, and have many intenational contracts with major oil exploration companies. The November, 2006 issue of Popular Mechanics has a good article on Hydrogen fuel / power, which can be looked at as competing stocks to buy within the energy sector. The article points out that although the Hydrogen fuel technology exists, the infrastructure from which hydrogen fuel can be produced, delivered, and dispensed into vehicles is probably a long way off. A few years ago, I thought the hydrogen fuel industry might be a good long-term investment. After reading this article, I don't think the mass production of hydrogen fuel would probably fund my retirement. I would like to see fossil fuels be substituted, but when you realize that the gasoline infrastructure as we know it today has been evolving since the early 1900's, gasoline will probably be around for a while, and oil companies need transportation to get their employees out to the oil rigs. FLI is a nice stock for the long-term stockholder.
