Not only is FPL a great electric utility franchise, arguably one of the best in the country due to load and growth, but it is also the most dynamic independent energy producer on the planet. Most people misjudge just how big and fast growing this side of the business is. Called FPL Energy, they are the largest renewable energy company in the world. They own 80% of all large solar plants in the USA and nearly 50% of all wind farms. Let me repeat that: 80% of ALL solar and 50% of ALL wind. To top this, they continue to invest in nuclear, having just bought a plant in Wisconsin, new wind energy(2000 MegaWatts PER YEAR) and new solar ($3 Billion, with a "B"). I am not sure what will become of the proposed carbon tax legislation working around Washington, but there is no company in the USA better positioned for the long term than FPL in this regard. Add to this an outstanding track record of performance and high dividend yield... this company has it all.
