I really like FPL for several reasons. First, they are a conservative energy play in a state which the boomers love to retire. Second, it pays a nice dividend yield of 2.6%. Third, they have some pretty innovative programs going on, especially for a power company. For instance, I read a few months ago where FPL was giving residence of a small community the option to pay a few dollars more each month in order to receive energy generated from solar panels. Today (oct. 5), I just read that they are going to sink 2.5 billion dollars into solar power. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the fact that they are leaders in wind generated power as well. In sum, this stock has all the pros of a conservative energy play that can bear the storm of a recession, yet it has some the pros typical of growth companies.
