The US Federal Government today in announcing the suspension of lending to coal-fired electricity plants that "the uncertainties of climate change and rising costs make the loans too risky".

1) The amount of energy on the market will drop causing the price to rise and solar becomes more plausible.
2) The government admitted that climate change is a problem! Even hints that the 'costs of climate change' need to be factored into even private financing - possibly hinting at a carbon tax?

Carbon tax = Enron yet fslr has made me lots of money which I will use to buy gold. Yet there was a report out the other day that for the next 10 years the world will be in a cooling trend. So now they are coming out with the peak oil theory. Ha! what next? Another war to keep oil high? Ech.........

why don't we drop away from the whole climate change because, well, its not important. I mean, don't get me wrong; even I believe in climate change, but lets look at it from an investment stand point. A lot of people debate and evidence can show 2 sides to every coin. Its not investing anyway and not what this site is for.

Secondly, lets just throw away our government. Who cares about the government, good investments don't need the government such as gold. Think about ethanol for a second, if this was a viable alternative from an economic stand point, we wouldn't need government mandates and subsidiaries. Now corn is up 76% this year, making ethanol not very profitable; its source is rising faster than gasoline. Anyway, even if it was the market would just start producing ethanol because it would know it was profitable.

And finally, why invest in a bank in hopes the government will save your day, that's not capitalism? The government if anything just prints out money and robs us with inflation... that's why the dollar has lost half the value and gold has doubled. They have no regard for people's retirements and savings... we all will suffer this just ask your parents how much there first car was and the answer is inflation.

Now that i have talked endlessly about nothing to do with the stock, lets take the case of FSLR.

FSLR trades at a PE of 99 today, it was 100 yesterday... does anyone think that's just simply nutz? Well, you can argue that the thin film technology is "simply the best around" and then justifies the high price. I mean after all, shouldn't the next big thing be expensive? Buffet thinks not!

If you step away from the hype and research a little you would learn from FLSR's website that these solar panels depend on the element Te or Tellurium. Take a trip to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tellurium on Wikipedia and we learn its the 9th RAREST ELEMENT ON EARTH Sounds like it could be a problem. so... if these panel can obvious do a good job, then lets ask if they are cost efficient with quite literally a compound that has the same rarity of Gold?

I'm not sure how much Te costs, but if demand went up then the price of the these panels SHOULD follow suit very well. The price of Te is almost certainly to reflect that as well with 500 - $1k a troy ounce of gold as it fits in the same rarity... does anyone plan on buying huge panels flimed in gold... after that, do they appear cost efficient?

At best they could be sold for special project like defense spending or specialize commercial projects... quiet a hop, skip and a jump from 10 on every roof, or every home in every suburb.
