solar energy has been tarnished with cry-wolf syndrome for some years. but the thin film solar market is starting to explode now-- demand far overpaces supply, now more than ever with increasing green mandates. first solar should be a solid long play here.

It was great that you had to foresight to recommend FSLR in Jan. However, we are now in May, and FSLR had experienced a significant runup. The alarming PE, forward PE, PEG, and dismal margin will cloud FSLR's future return. Last week, we had CSUN IPO, and expects LDK to IPO this week, along with more solar plays to be IPO shortly. At the end of these froth, I believe in companies like GE, Sharp, Mitsubishi, BP and other major blue chips to win.Good luck.

I'm big on solar generally, but First Solar has a fundamental problem: It's panels are too inefficient. First Solar panels produce about 65 watts each, as opposed to (say) 215 watts for a similar-size SunPower panel. I installed a 6 KW SunPower system on my residence, which required 28 SunPower panels. To get the same capacity from First Solar would require almost 100 First Solar panels. Mounting that many panels would require three houses! So First Solar is not a viable residential capability. Problem is, residential installations are where solar will shine. Americans like independence, and they will embrace independent power generation at home, just like they embrace home theater systems, solo commuting, etc. Just wait and see. My money is on SunPower.
