I have come upon a new question to ask when approaching a stock. My father, who is 77, has decided to put some money in the market. I come up with research on a few companies, and he makes the decisions from there. Each pick has been agonizing. What if I make a bad call? Fortunately all of my picks so far have done well. Tomorrow our next pick is GD. As I run and rerun the numbers, I keep asking, "Would you tell your elderly parents to risk their money on this?" With GD, I can't find a reason that they shouldn't put their money behind it. The balance sheet is very nice, the company seems to be firing on all cylinders, and the dividend has been growing at a very nice pace (In Jan 06, the yield was 20 cents. It's now 29 cents...a 45% increase in less than 2 years.)
