Great DIvidend. Great profits, but no one can quantify its value, so its unappreciated by the broader market. GE is the standard for blue chip companies, and in times of market uncertainty, I believe money will flow to it. GE is especially attractive after they released fourth quarter profits. Profits doubled, but investors are fearful after the CEO's commented that they weren't looking for aquisitions to drive growth.

In January alone, GE bought the medical unit from Abbot ($8.1B), the aerospace ($4.8B) unit from Smith Group., and Vecto Gray ($1.8B) amongst others. That's $14.7B in a single month! All that Immelt said was that he's done with big acquisitions for the current year. In the meantime, look for GE to sell its Plastics business as announced in January for around $10B, according to newspapers.

I believe that GE's earnings growth is more important than its aquisitions. Outside aquisitions are nice, but GE needs to instrisically grow its own business. I believe the stock is still highly undervalued though.

Does anyone here have a sense what exposure if any G.E. Finance has to the subprime market. I think the G.E.s earnings largely come from this unit and this may be lost when people consider GE.

I have no idea, but its a question of worthy consideration. I know that recently GE Finance was moving heavily in the direction of consumer credit cards, and was deriving a nice profit there. I'll have to check and see about their subprime exposure.
