You can buy $5 Gold eagles freshly minted. They are 1/10th of an ounce of gold. Worth today by weight about $100 each. The size of a thin dime. For insurance, keep a few $K on hand. If there is a terror attack and the computers are down (or worse events like a collapsed dollar) you can use them to barter for fuel, food, or dental services for example. As oil keeps creeping upward it's value will increase. The realistic Alternatives to oil are so far away, there will be nothing left of our economy by time it happens. The only way I see gold fall dramatically is when we get the environmentally controlled Democrats out of ANWAR and we start drilling now. (Some oil is near the surface and could be pumped in 3 months.) Nobody knows how much there really is because it costs to much money "poking holes in the ground" to find out. Especially because it's illegal to recover it. The day candidate Mickey Mouse announces that he will drill in ANWAR, he will get my vote and I will sell my gold. Just think..we could become exporter to the world again. Just like Canada nowadays. Without near term oil recovery we have no National Security. How do you fight a war with jet or tank fuel, at projected gas costs of $7.

Not useless to those of us who have made substantial gains over the last two years. Given the next pop in oli prices and the devaluation of the dollar, watch GLD over $100.

That is an absurd comment I guess that explains your CAPS rating, gold is the only reason our money was worth something at one point once we printed out too much money we had backed by gold in Fort Knox we were forced to take our money off of the gold standard in 1971. That confetti you carry around in your wallet is useless in the long term gold will prevail not our fiat monetary system and the market knows it.Watch gold skyrocket!
