GM is the best that America has to offer and for the moment is benefiting on the weak dollar and Toyota failing to invest in the BRIC countries. They are doing everything right to get out of the hole they have dug over the last decade and their design teams are finally getting ahead of the curve.

To respond to your points:

1. GM and the UAW is causing a world of hurt for production. The benefits from the weak dollar will be short term.

2. Toyota, the number 1 car maker in the world, is invested in Brazil, Russia, India, and China with manufacturing plants, distribution, and sales. Check out the Toyota IQ for India's market to compete with Tata Motors.

3. The only thing keeping GM alive are BRIC countries. Their failure in the U.S. speaks volumes.

4. Everything they're doing wrong can be explained by the Bear Pitch to the right of this one.

I don't know about the "best America has to offer"; the Dodge brand is still moving well with consumers. However, we have to look logically. Will the government honestly allow GM to buckle when they employ tens of thousounds of workers and vendors and support industries? Will the government all the American vehicle market to be dominated by two brands (Ford & Crysler? I think the political pressures to keep the jobs, keep the market diversified, etc. will keep GM in the game. One word "Unions". Therefore, allow GM to hit bottom (already there?) and hold until the rebound or the bail-out happens. One thing for sure, if the current executives can't fix it soon, they will be gone. New blood will revive the stock price and you will double your money.

Yo! Wild Tribe...wake up!!! BRIC is the only reason GM and Ford can keep their heads above water. For the first time in history, Asia-Pacific consumers bought more cars than N. American consumers.

They are certainly doing everything right and design teams are making leaps and bounds improvements, but personally I think it's a stretch to say that they are the best that America has to offer. GM's biggest problem (in my infinitely wise opinion:) is that they still make too many of the same vehicle under different models. Why design, build and market the same vehicle twice or even three times. GMC, Buick, Saturn and others should go away completely just like they did with oldsmobile. The vehicle platforms in those brands are identical to other Chevolet or Pontiac trucks and cars. If a person loves their Yukon and Yukon goes away I promise they will get a Tahoe next time without much thought at all.
