They try to force you into preorders, gouge you on used games, and talk you into guides when it takes 12 seconds to find a walkthrough online. Not good business for the long term when it's just as easy to get most games at Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, etc...

I totally agree with you jahartmu, Gamestop is a Gouging of a business for the long term. I purchased a new game from them for my ps3 for 60$, only for it to be an outdated pc-transfer of Unreal Tournament with horrendous graphics and play control. I tried to return it the Same DAY (with receipt)and the only thing they could do for me was offer me 18.50 to buy it back from me. I will never shop there again.

I disagree with this pitch. Gamestop dominates the used market to a point where I might call it a monopoly. People go to Gamestop to get used games and just end up making it their one stop for games.

But you're right about them gouging people. Gamecrazy might give them a run for their money in a few years.

I disagree with this pitch as well. As a consumer, I look at all my options for purchasing my games, and I find that when I'm looking to make my purchase, Gamestop is where I end up, as usually the have the product that I want in stock, while the big box retailers never have enough inventory. And with the game guys and pre-orders, its a sales tactic to make more money. I don't blame them for trying. I view it the same as going to a fast food restaurant, ordering only a burger, and then being asked if I want fries with my order too.

Amazon > all others. Digital download = death of Gamestop. They simply can't push out the quantity of new releases like other retailers.

"Gamestop dominates the used market to a point where I might call it a monopoly. People go to Gamestop to get used games and just end up making it their one stop for games."

I used to believe this but have since come around to the bear side on this stock. Digital distribution is going to ramp up a whole lot faster than I initially expected it to, and GME will fall behind as a result. They may be reaping the rewards of their hugely profitable used game business now, but in all likelihood it won't last them past this current console generation. Valve's "Steam" system and MSFT's "Xbox Originals" program over Xbox Live are just the tip of this iceberg. Used games will cease to be a business at all once this shift is complete.
