Why would I want to be buried in a $10k box? It makes no sense to me whatsoever. I just don't get the need to put my dead body in a fancy box to rot. When I die you can chuck me in the local landfill as far as I'm concerned. I never saw anything in the Bible about needing to be buried in a fancy box. The idea is totally ridiculous. I can't imagine a stupider way to spend $10k. (Ok, the government is more imaginative than me. I'll concede that.)

If I did care about such things, I think I'd rather construct some collossal monument to myself - like a pyramid or the Taj Mahal or something of that nature. If there is a company that does this rich people, I think it should be a growth industry and I'd green-thumb it. I mean seriously, where will Donald Trump be buried? It's probably a good business to start. But this $10k for a box in the ground nonsense is for the birds.

I'm not anti-religious by any stretch, but I think the trend of secularism will eventually lead to the downfall of the current funeral industry.

"Downfall" is a bit strong. I certainly think the trend away from preserving as opposed to cremating will continue growing, but it's still small. In the meantime, a lot of people really care about this stuff. I had a housecleaner from Poland when I lived in Chicago who built a $30,000 monument to the death of her 4 year old daughter. I would have preferred to see her put that toward her son's college education, but it gives her comfort, and it's her money.
