My dad has owned Independence Lead (a mining penny stock) for decades. Much to his surprise, he received notification that Hecla Mining is making an offer on the company. http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/ticker/article.aspx?Feed=AP...

Both ILDM and HL have jumped up in value on the news. Apparently HL is making a move to buy up smaller claims in the Idaho and Montana area.

Meanwhile, metals seem to be an attractive choice while the US economy goes into a tail-spin. Call it a recession or call it a reduction in growth, all the metals are strong while I don't see medium term growth in banking, retail or consumer sectors.
