Interactive Brokers is an electronic market maker and broker over a broad range of exchanges. After their IPO with Hambrecht & Co. this company brought in a large amount of starting capital and is currently offering a large amount of additional shares at a discounted auction price. Immediately following many of these auctioned offerings of additional shares, a company on average will experience a moderate increase in stock price over a few months. In the case of Interactive Brokers, they are in a competitive field and although the company prospects are good they may battle debt and eventually get mopped up by a larger company or worse, eventually die. The short term play here following the additional offering of shares is advantageous for people to play. This preys on trends and market psychology only. Long term investment would require that the company eventually buy back shares of the company to maintain greater ownership of their own assests.
