+ Watch IBM
on My Watchlist
The Company is a globally integrated innovation company, serving the needs of enterprises and institutions worldwide.
Nobody ever went wrong buying IBM (stock, for the long term). An amazing company by almost any standard I can think of. That said, this won't be hitting my Stock Advisor scorecard anytime soon, I don't think, as there are just too many other companies I can foresee outperforming this one. But it's still darn good enough for one of my green thumbs! Outperform.
DavidGlad to see you on board for the ride. IBM won't be a 10-bagger soon but a 73% gain since 5/2008 is not too shabby. A good conservative ballast for the port.Mark
The company needs to boost revenues which have been flat for awhile. The stock buy backs and dividends help somewhat.
Returns on capital now over 30%, ROE approaching 80%, and consistent growth in earnings and cash flows, with a valuation below the market average. BUY! BUY! BUY!
Or even better...buy LEAPS if you think the stock will moderately rise. A calendar spread my take care of the cost of the LEAP, and you will probably have an option(probably for free) to buy IBM cheap after a few years. I bought one when the stock plunged, and its almost a two-bagger now;)This strategy won't work that well if the stock starts a slide right now...but considering the two big B's(Buybacks and Buffet) on the prowl, I don't think the stock will go down too much. Works best for me if its range-bound. Sell a call, let it expire or buy back, rinse, repeat...Thanks Jeff Fisher and his team for the interesting options introduction!
Well, underperforming so far -- noting -16 Score 5 five months later....
-33 Score 15 months later.
