As everyone continues to flee the financials and consumer discretionary markets, we're seeing a coal bubble. Talk to anyone, and they'll tell you "Coal's the next big thing!" I agree that from a resource and technology standpoint, coal *is* the next big thing (until solar overtakes it in 15 years). But this is going to be VERY similar to what we saw happen to solar. Everything's going to skyrocket, then all kinds of crazy volatility will happen. In the mean time, I was I had more real money to ride in this bubble before it pops.

Coal is and has been a major contributor of energy. The Germans used it during WWII for fuel.It has been held back in the USA by enviornmental standards that are very shortsighted but poplular. The Future Gen project was canceled. It purpose was to change coal to a usable fuel for the public. Each comapny has its resouces in hard/solft/surface/ underground/cheap/expensive coal. These are solid assets.Solar has problems it has not surpassed Yet but may in the future.Coal is a permanent resource and works today. Lets give them some slack and let them help us during this time of shortage and high costs.

chk2595, take a trip to China and then say if you still think environmental standards are shortsighted. You can hardly see across the LOBBY OF THE HOTEL there. You will be coughing up brown stuff. Thanks largely to coal.Coal could be a good thing if used WITH environmental technologies.
