Robert LaPenta left 3-L Communications -- a 6-bagger in a decade -- to build a near-monopoly in biometric identifcation.
Fueled by homeland security and identity theft concerns, L-1 should prove recession resistant. Its tentacles reach throughout the governmental universe: driver's licenses, passports, military and defense dept ID's and likely the upcoming border-crossing national ID cards. LaPenta's government contacts and continuing acquisitions of competitors should pay off big time.

What serious competition? LaPenta has done a good job consolidating facial, fingerprint(with wireless dimension) and iris. I guess all they're lacking is DNA and voice recog'
