This is my secret tracking bug...and secret weapon.
What's the point in picking this one? The idea is to BEAT THE S&P, not just track it. This one will never generate enough points to make it worth making a recommendation on.
I want to track the S&P over the life of my CAPs portfolio. I'm working on a theory. I'll get back to you in a quarter.
Interesting...I'm looking forward to your insight!
Well, now things are working differently. All stocks in CAPS are being tracked relative to SPY; for some reason IVV is outperforming SPY right now. Dividend payments, maybe? You are probably ahead now, even if just barely.
I, too, am interested in checking out your theory.
Yes, the dividend was the theory (just after caps first implemented them), but I also wanted a "lifetime" comparison tool and for the <1% I figured it was worth it. I'm not what effects tracking by the SPY will have but I'm willing to keep it for now.
Investment News
Looks like the Dividend is kicking in. I went from being down .09 to up .40. Keep watching I guess.
I still don't understand this bug. I used to be an ETF arbitrage trader.
In general, IVV trades about 2c less than FV if you calibrate SPY to the SPX futures and use the same basis.
However, IVV has a higher expense ratio than SPY so I don't understand in the long-term why IVV should ever outperform SPY.
Do you have any additional insight?
I use this to track the S&P over the life of my account, not as a point gainer or loser. Cheers
