Sun's profit margins stink, and they have been losing money for years. They are being squeezed by GNU/Linux and *BSD on one side, and Windows on the other side. They've been around for years and still haven't payed one penny of dividends. I like Solaris, I like Java, and I wish Sun well, but they won't be outperforming the S&P anytime soon.
