The place to make major purchases of materials is at a local lumber yard. However, the place for a D.I.Y. person is normally a home improvement center where the hardware is displayed and a person can "pick and choose". These big box stores also hav...

In my risk-seeking days (ie, pre-subprime blowup) I picked a bunch of homebuilders, and it looks like I lost. Lowe's is much better positioned for when the housing market rebounds than any of the builders. It has been able to gain market share on H...

I just think the price of this stock has gone lower than it deserves. Certainly the housing sector beat-down has taken its toll on Lowes, but the company has a track record of 20% growth yoy, and the stock is currently trading at a P/E of under 15. T...

DIYs are tied to consumer spending, not homebuilding. Personally, home repair projects are a core spend for me -- akin to the other "non-cyclicals". Assuming 15x $2.20 over the next year or $33.00. 18% gain should exceed the broader market.

Trading at historically low PE multiple. Has shown consistent growth and profitablility for the past 15 years with no margin compression through recession in 2001. Market underestimating the value of the industry over a long time horizon.

In the sagging housing market we're in, homeowners who might have sold older homes and moved on may now be staying put and making improvements to the real estate they already own. And Lowes is so much better than Home Depot, which continues to shoot...
