Keep on trucking!
I just rechecked the return on equity for LSTR. It has increased to almost 50%. This company has a phenomenal long term growth rate in earnings, and they have reduced the outstanding shares somewhat. Plus, lower gas prices have to show up in the bottom line somewhere sometime. On the minus side, I do not care for the debt level. Still, it is not out of the question. Hmmm....there is a lot to like here, especially since it is currently selling at about half the intrinsic value. Truckers are out of fashion right now. But why? Don't look at me! I own several trucking stocks!

Gas prices don't affect Landstar. The company's drivers are independent contractors who receive a percentage of revenue from the load and pay for their own gas.

Lower gas prices will only indirectly affect this stock, and only to the degree that total shipping costs determine how much any customer might ship. Landstar charges shipping clients a surcharge to offset rising fuel prices but passes all of this surcharge on to the owner/operators. I think that this stock has stagnated due to relative constant shipping volumes and revenues in the recent past.

Landstar has many disgruntled independent contractors, they don't care about their independent contractors, look at the message boards landstar bco's are fed up with the company and Henry Gerkens, the turnover rate has skyrocketed, shipping rates have plummetted,Landstar has turned from one of the most respected trucking companies to the joke of the industry.I hope Landstar does well but take it from someone whose been involved with them for more than ten years that their best days are well behind them.
