operations have impressive profitability as measured by several criteria, including free cash flow, where margins have been between 11% and 15% in each of the past few years.

Agreed. Great regular dividends and good profits have been overshadowed by the fact that newspaper circulation is down. Their percieved loss due to the KnightRidder acquisition made their figures look bad, but their revenue is still strong. Margins have traditionally been larger in the newspaper industry than others, but 15% is not too shabby.As for adapting to a changing media market, they signed a content deal with Yahoo news - the largest provider of online news - and have shown great success with their stakes in CareerBuilder and Cars.com. I think the stock is a great one to hold on to, and maybe even buy while cheap.
