Everyone is wondering why Momenta is jumping up on no news on a day the broad market is eating sh-t. All they need to do is look at CAPS and see that I ended my outperform two days ago after several quiet months - ergo an immediate 30% gap up. So I'm going to double down on my lost CAPS points with an underperform rating. What I said before still stands - the company provided no clarity on the generic enoxaparin issue in their last quarterly statement and left open the possibility of further clinical trials. The FDA is not in the habit of suddenly backtracking on their decisions, no matter how stupid. I don't see what positive news might have leaked today to explain the upward movement, so I'm going to bet on manipulation and a return to previous price levels when the manipulators have sold their shares.

Within the greater picture of the biotech sector which on a whole performs with some rationality and predictability, there are islands of short-term chaos such as Idenix and Momenta. While Momenta was definitely oversold originally there is no explanation for the upward surge this year except for institiutional accumulation based on insider leaks about the prospects for generic enoxaparin. After this I'll be shocked if the next action by the FDA is also negative.
