Best performing S&P stock since the S&P was initiated 50 years ago. Altria floor right now is about 67/share, I'm going outperform at just under 70. I own this stock in my Roth IRA personally, and will likely continue to hold and add to my position for the next 3 decades and beyond. I can go over the fundamentals, but as a fool.com reader, you probably have a good idea how good MO's fundamentals are. Simply put this is a dividend achieving stock, continually growing revenues year after year, with a product that dominates the market and will grow in popularity as the developing world joins the "first world." To a lesser extent MO is also a currency play, and this is for two reasons. One is that Phillip Morris International is now making cigarettes overseas and selling them, so stronger non-US currencies will make more profit in US$. The second is that cigarettes, in times of extreme distress or circumstance, can be traded as a medium of exchange. (This is already done in prisons, and has also been done in trade with countries that have no viable currency.)

In any case, while MO might be one of the most evil corporations ever, the fact is they make a crapload of money and will continue to do so for the forseeable future. Incidentally I do not smoke, and my own philosophy is like this:

If people are going to buy cigarettes and kill themselves and ruin their health, I might as well make some money on it.
