I think the Redmond giant has been unfairly punished lately, and is a screaming bargain today. The risk is, of course, Google doing everything right and taking Microsoft's place in the software world. But that's not happening today, or the next few years.

Google has a much narrower intellectual property foundation than Microsoft and poses no threat to Microsoft's powerful position in development tools, end user PC operating systems and software, server operating systems and server applications in key areas such as database, security, email and collaboration software.

I concur with your assement and would add that should Vista be compatable with XBox 360 MSFT will be the dominant player in the video downloads that is all the rage at the moment. I think that the release of Vista will straighten out an unclear picture as to PC down loads too TV use with out the need for another piece of electronics on my rack. MSFT is totally a deal at the moment but then so are a bunch of others. Good Luck

I read the bear/bull conversation on Microsoft, and I have this to say: It is a perfect parallel to the reason MS stock is languishing. Even the people who are evaluating the stock don't understand the business!Long ago, when it became clear that first every worker, and then every home, would get a PC, MS stock soared on the "chicken-in-every-pot" concept. This concept is easily grasped and sexy. Now that that has been achieved, people think that MS growth is capped to upgrades (ie Vista/2007 Office). What I never see covered is that fully half of MS's income comes from their enterprise products. Not in the sense of PCs on every desk, which is as close as your discussion came, but in the sense of server products. This is the direction Microsoft is truly focussed on, and even a basic understanding of the new Office products would bear this out. Much of Office has been turned into services available from the server. In otherwords, even the GOOG and Sun operating models are converging with MS, not diverging from them.I strongly suggest that investors research the WRSSA, the MS reference architecture (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/solutionaccelerators/wssra/raguide/default.mspx) to familiarize yourselves with both this other side of the business and how many server products it takes to run an enterprise business.

I agree it is a good buy, but I disagree with your MSFT vs. GOOG analysis. Whether Google does good or not won't affect MSFT. How do you get to Google? You turn on your computer and your Windows operating system comes on. They you open Internet Explorer to get to Googles URL. They are the toll bridge between customers and Google. As my compatriot Borat would say, "I like very Much. Nice!"
