Newmont is a well managed producer, lower cost, expansion minded (by acquistion and add'l mines) with reserves to keep them busy, and new mines coming on line. They have very little leverage to hurt them (future sales)(unlike ABX). This is a rainy day stock.

One thing I like to do is divide the Total Liabilities by the Total Assets of a company and get a percentage. As of December 2007, that figure was around 50%. Last years December 2006 figure was around 40%. My question is; why is the company numbers going in the wrong direction when gold prices are high!

Sorry, I don't agree. With gold prices high and the P/E of the company high why is their total assets/total liablity percentage getting worse? Higher prices for gold should be improving the companies numbers instead of making them worse! What happens when the price of gold starts heading down?
