I'm in the camp of choose the diamond / setting you want maybe in the store..but log onto NILE if you can get what you want there & save money to boot. I like their model for the long haul (streamlined sourcing, etc.) and their customer service -- perhaps they are the Zappo's of the gem-jewelry market! ...Ordered a Mother's day gift, called a couple hours later to ask a question about the gift...and it was already out the door!

Actually, as a customer of Blue Nile also, I found that the ability to log on and learn about the product at my leisure and in control of any sales pitching to be a great point of comfort. I walked through several stores this past January to take a peek and was immediately facing a salesperson that I wasn't ready to deal with. After seeing the online selection I was also aware that their in store offerings were inferior quality. Retail stores may be the place to get your setting and adjust your sizings; but buy your gems at Blue Nile.
