This is a great stock sitting on one of the largest reserves in the US. They are aggressively acquiring more acreage. Does someone have a list of the companies that are drilling in the Bakken Wiliston play?• "This sizeable find is now the highest-producing onshore oil field found in the past 56 years," reports The Pittsburgh Post Gazette.• The NY Times writes... "One of the largest oil finds in the history of the U.S."• The US Dept of Energy confirms... "This could increase crude oil in America by billions of barrels."It's a formation known as the Williston Basin, but is more commonly referred to as the "Bakken." And it stretches from Northern Montana, through North Dakota and into Canada.

I'm actually up here drilling some of these wells and the buzz going around this area is very exciting. Currently, off the top of my head, Hess, EOG, Whiting, Marathon, Slawson, Continental, Brigham, and Conoco Phillips are drilling up here. I'm sure there are some other "Independents" taking advantage of this Bakken play as it covers almost 2/3 of the state. NOG controls some portion of mineral rights on over 100,000 acres. Some of these wells are producing well over 1,000 barrels of oil a day, which at $110 oil doesn't take long to pay for itself. The buzz up here is that most of the major oil companies are going to expand their operations and take advantage of the Bakken.

Yes I have a listI really think that 3.0 to 4.3 recoverable reserves are about it and it will cost $ 18 a barrel to get it to surface.this is expensive for a land rig operation. , all the shares have gone up and value is fully built in. Hess I took out of picks when it went up 14% in a week.Don't believe 503 billion barrels at 10% recoverable it is more like 0.6% recoverable, still a good play.

Most do not realize there are 17 or more other formations in the Williston Basin that produce oil but have yet to taste the horizontal bit. Continental fracing a Sanish horizontal as we speak. And it looks good. Sanish sand is the formation directly below the Bakken and underlies most of the basin. And how about the Red RIver B and C, Interlake ,Winnepegosis(already drilled horiz. with good results), Madison,Ratliff,Duperow etc.

The other Player in this oil field is Brigham Exploration,Larger acreage than NOG. NOG has a partnership with BEXP, on at least Two of the Wells that just came in on latest BEXP report on 06/02/08.(check news for 06/02/08) These two have amassed well over 500,000 acres in Bakken field. Brigham's fields butts right up to the already proven shale fields, of Canada's Saskatchewan Province,

A partial list is at http://www.bakkenstocks.com. There are a number of recent players who have bought into the region like XTO

Go to there site and look at their maps it lists all companies in play. They are one of the best! BEXP is one to look at also.

man, I just invested in alot of companies that are on the Bakken region, such as KOG, NOG and BEXP, with full intentions of taking advantage of it as a short term investment. I still think it wont be a losing deal, but I just came across the USGS report of the Bakken region and now Im quite skeptical. I stuided environmental science, and such thing as oil extraction requires immense knowledge of geographical features. The region as speculated to have more than 250 billion barrels, with likely number around 4 billion to be extracted. However read the article on Bakken on http://www.theoildrum.com/node/3868 and youll know what I mean....this is such a let down because I thought this was a MAJOR breakthrough....

how is 250 billion barrles a let-down? Do you think they will not advance technology to get at most of that oil in the next 10-15 years? just look at the leaps and bounds offshore drilling took to become more efficent with drilling and deep water recovery ... They all will get to that oil in due time ... necessity is the mother of invention ... You'd be foolish not to pick up any sticks of those companies up there right now ... NOG is not only drilling, they are agressively going after lease purchases and bottling in other companie's wells and leasing some lands as well to other companies ... one thing to drill, it's another to own the land too ...

CLR, XTO, EOG, MRO to get you started. XTO is the largest player. The large aquisitions and lease purchases are pushing their price down. Excellent buy. EOG and XTO are also down here in the Barnett, along with Chesapeke. They struck oil in Fort Worth a couple of weeks ago.
