OK, a few things that I don't like.
1) Rumor has it that there will only be 30,000 units for the June 6th launch.
2) Another rumor has it that production was delayed due to Hardware/Software issues.
3) It launches Saturday. Has anyone seen any advertising for it?
4) Sprint has exclusive rights till December. Given that a lot of ex-customers had a poor experience, I'm betting that they are willing to wait 6 monthsrather than com back.
5) Apple is coming out with a $99 iphone and the Pre will be at $199 if you include the instant rebate.
6) The Next generation model of the iphone comes out this year.
7) Verizon gets to sell the iphone this year.
8) 2 more Google Android Phones coming out this year.
9) The cell phone market is saturated and this is still a bad economy.
10) Who's the demographic here? iphone = trendy teenagers and adults and Apple fans. Google = Tech Geeks, Rimm = business market. Palm was known for the PIM market, but the rise of netbooks is gonna fill that void without a monthly fee. To succeed this phone is gonna have to take share from the others.
Is anybody here actually planning on buying this phone? It comes out this week and I don't know much about it. Will the average consumer have a reason to buy this when they aren't even promoting it?
Way too many issues here for PALM to be trading at this stock price. Look for insider selling in the month of July.
Verizon won't be seeing iphone this year.. do some research. All your other points are valid.
#2: Apparently the manufacturer they use... Foxconn, is also the manufacturer of one of the worst desktop motherboards according to newegg reviews. No wonder they are having manufacturing issues. If they have to "hand check" their products going forward for the next batch, there will never be enough units to maximize sales.
#3: The main point for me... The supposed "iPhone killer" has no brand recognition or loyalty anymore, and marketing campaign is dismal.
#5: iPhone at $99 is pure rumor at this point.
yup pretty much bad management in a nutshell. Too late to the game and this is not a game they can catch up in. They are toast with 100% confidence. They tried to blame it on the OS. It was bad management trying to get the max ROI out of the development of the OS. It was the lack of attracting creativity, to dream of what is possible and and leadership to guide the team to execution.
Bloodhound , I did do my research and I'll bet you $1.00 that Verizon is selling an Iphone by Christmas. Well not exactly an Iphone. It will have a name like "Itablet" or something, but it will essentially have 2 operating systems and 1 of them will be the same one as the Iphone. This gets them around the exclusivity agreement.
DarkOblivion I actually saw a leak on a 3rd party website which showed the ad for the $99 phone. It could have been photo shopped, but it made way too much sense with the new version coming out. As you can see, Apple confirmed this today.
The Pre is getting returned like crazy!
Returns are rumored to be around 40%
