I predict green will be the next stock bubble. . . oh, the green industry will be great, and it's one we need, but the money will come pouring in too fast, just like with the internet bubble. Again, a technology and industry we need, but too much money chasing to few good and workable ideas. (I'm still buying more right now anyway, to lower my average cost basis.)
I've seen the "green" movement fail before. Its very possible, however, and even maybe likely, that we are entering a new world thanks to persistantly high energy prices. And the fact that global warming is clearly in play, even if the purported causes are dispute. Can we afford to take the risk the burning of fossil fuels is not the major contributor?.
If indeed we have reached the "tipping point" for Alternative energies, and I believe we may very well have, this will be the biggest opportunity since Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin!
Alternative energy needs to stand on its own 2 feet WITHOUT IFFY and SPORADIC government subsidies that can disappear overnight. Another reason I think this may be for real this time, there are real paybacks even without government subsidies that can be pullled sinking an entire industry like congress did in the 70's. Congress is the PROBLEM, not the SOLUTION. Gridlock is GOOD! Because Congress only acts in ITS SELF INTEREST, not yours and mine. So no act, is better than what they are likely to come up with. Sorry could not resist that little rant.
