Yes,coal is up but so is the cost of mining!!! labor, fuel, tires, equipment, ANFO ect. these same comments were said three or four yearsago. stocks went up then 10K cameout and dowm they came. because cost tracked up with coal prices. this is not the coal boom of the 70,s coal will have to go $150 a ton that will not happen. gov. reg will also keep companys from being able to reach high production rates i.e. army corp. permits are slow in coming look at W.Va., Ky. see how many they have issued. companies are paying hugh prices for them which is millions of there bottom lines. be very careful or you will be the fool!!!

Is it too late to benefit from coal & other commodities? Is two days of bad news enough to cause us to change directions?

However on the other side of the globe, China's surging growth is forcing up the price due to demand of coal as an alternate energy.China had been a net exporter of coal, but in mid-2007 it imported coal for the first time. China's coal demand is likely to continue to increase by more than 5% annually, perhaps more, in the immediate years ahead. US Coal suppliers have benefited from the run-up after several years of decline.

Well I live in WV and Patriot is reopening sites I thought were closed down. They used to only haul 8am-6pm. They now haul 24 hrs a day. They only stop for holidays now. Another power plant in the area is being built that will run on coal and supposedly the coal it will use will be local coal. The power will go out of state either to NY, NJ, or DC. I can only see it going up in the forseeable future. The only thing holding mining down is actually SAFETY and enviromental issues.
