This is mainly to counter-weigh my pick with AEG with a safer competitor. PRU should see steady gains up to the high 60's within a year.
I don't think PRU is much "safer" than AEG. PRU has actually been slightly more volatile the last 3 years and trades at a higher price to book.
In my opinion the safest insurers are Bermuda reinsurers (Argo, Aspen, Endurance, Everest, American, Allied World, Partner, Alterra, Maiden, Flagstone, Validus, etc.) Generally, they use less leverage than American and European insurers and thus successfully navigated the credit crisis. Some of them are more exposed to catastrophic loss, some aren't.
