Qwest’s debt levels will continue to hinder its financial performance by limiting what it can do to maintain a competitive infrastructure. In the short term DSL products can support the growth of “bundled” services: Digital Voice(VoIP), Video, and Internet. In a longer term, DSL will not be sufficient to compete with companies such as Comcast and Verizon that are very well positioned using cable and fiber optic infrastructures. DSL over traditional wire line technology is just not going to carry the load required for growing consumer demand for video services. The cost to Qwest improve their infrastructure to compete with technology will be significant and time consuming.
